Tom Fazio, who was recognized as the Best Golf Course Designer by Golf Digest Magazine, has designed a championship golf course which is the centerpiece of one of the best-kept secrets in the Southeast. Sculpted into the rolling hills of northern Durham, the course's unique design and blend of community life has been rewarded with the recognition as one of the top 100 golf/residential communities in America.
The par 72 stretches out to just over 7,000 yards from the Championship tees. The course has five different sets of tees to accommodate players of all abilities. Our signature hole is #18, which plays a demanding 450 yards over a winding creek to one of the most challenging greens on the course. To make a par 4 on this hole will certainly make the golfer's round a lasting memory.
All 18 greens of the Golf Course have been completely re-built from the ground up. There is new drainage in each, as well as new stone and soil. The new grass is a Crenshaw blend of bent grass and is the most heat tolerant bent grass available. In order to maintain the health of these greens, a number of trees have been removed as to increase air flow and sunlight to the grass. These greens now need as much sun as possible each day. Around each green, brand new irrigation loops have been installed to help control the amount of water that is either put on the green or around the green in the approach areas. Every sand trap on the course has also been renovated with new drainage and new sand. In some cases, the bunkers were re-designed or moved to increase their relevance. We have also added a few bunkers on certain holes to make those holes play better. Finally there have been a couple new tee boxes added to add length to the course. As well as a new ladies tee on Hole #8.
The Professional Shop at Treyburn is stocked with a full range of golf equipment and apparel. Our Professional Staff is always available to assist with selections and assist with special orders. Our PGA Professionals are available at any time to administer private lessons or clinics. The practice facility features hitting areas at both ends of the range, a chipping/pitching green, and a putting green. If you are looking for some on-course competition, our schedule offers many different weekly games and club tournaments. If casual golf is your choice, allow the Professional Staff to assist in setting up your next round. Tee times are always available and there are no restrictions on Ladies play, junior play or walking.
